Edie Perra

Edie is one of our hardworking interns here at Rooted. She is passionately pursuing her MDiv in Missiology at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and plans to graduate in 2022. She puts her passion into practice here at Rooted as she serves as our College and City Engagement intern.

Here is Edie's testimony to God's faithfulness in her life:

After five years of marriage, my husband and I got into some financial difficulties. I was trying to live above our means because I was living a materialistic lifestyle. We were able to sell our home and move to another area in town.
A neighbor invited us to attend a church that was near our house. Our family decided to go on Christmas Eve. For the first time, the Christmas songs I had been singing for over 30 years finally made sense. After the new year, we decided to go back. Eventually we were invited to the outreach pastor’s home for dinner, he even said we could bring our daughter Morgan along. So, we had dinner, she played with their son (who has special needs), and they shared the Gospel with us through a Gospel tract. A month later, we were baptized together, we joined a very missional Sunday School class, and the rest is history.

Here are a few more important questions we got to ask Edie:

What is your favorite passage of Scripture? Why is that?

My favorite Scripture is Hebrews 11:6.

"And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him (ESV)."

It is my life verse due to the stepping out in faith I took to start a cake business when I didn’t even know how to bake. I started making cakes to help a friend who had cancer pay for her medical bills. It went from just basic desert cakes, to wedding cakes, to winning a blue ribbon at the NC State Fair in the professional category.

What was important in a church that it brought you to Rooted? How long have you been here?

The most important thing is the theology/doctrine and mission focus that a church holds. Also with the viewpoint that we are all brothers and sisters and as such, we should support each other. I have been attending Rooted since November 2020.

What is something that COVID has grown you?

Patience and learning to just be in the moment.

What is your biggest hope to see happen within the Rooted family?

My biggest hope is that Rooted will continue to grow and be a strong family of believers, but also to understand that it is our purpose to follow Acts 1:8 and have a missional mindset.

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8, ESV)."

We are so grateful for Edie, the work the Lord has done in her life, and the passion for missions that He has grown in her heart! Take a moment and thank the Lord for Edie and pray over her studies and ministry as the Lord continues to shape her.
